Accelerating the development of Celtic Sea floating offshore wind

Wave Hub Ltd is currently in the process of transitioning to a strategic role, where it will work in partnership with private developers. The company aims to become a  focal point for the Celtic Sea floating offshore wind (FLOW) cluster, helping seize the opportunity to develop this fast-growing sector.

Until now, Wave Hub Ltd's core role has been to manage the Wave Hub test facilities and facilitate testing of a range of offshore technologies including large scale wave energy devices, wave energy arrays, floating wind, hybrid wind/wave devices, major subcomponents and associated subsea equipment.

With the planned divestment of the Wave Hub offshore assets to private sector developers in 2020, Wave Hub Ltd’s future focus will be on:

  • Advance technology development by providing a wide range of specialist services to support offshore renewable energy installations, especially the Celtic Sea floating offshore wind opportunity;
  • Drive research and innovation to help overcome barriers to full commercialisation;
  • Foster a growing offshore renewable energy industry and supply chain, helping to drive regional economic development and create new jobs;
  • Build consortia and teams able to deliver the Celtic Sea floating wind opportunity;
  • Transfer knowledge through international research collaborations and the provision of consultancy services.
