Offshore Cable Tail Extensions Project

The project to install subsea cable tail extensions across the Wave Hub site was completed during the summer of 2016 and was part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

The project comprised work to install four subsea cable extensions at the Wave Hub offshore site and connect them to the existing Wave Hub subsea infrastructure. The work was completed entirely by local contractors, drawing on offshore renewable skills and experienced deployed elsewhere in UK and internationally.

This infrastructure enhancement provides four project grid connection points staggered up the west side of the Wave Hub offshore site enabling the deployment of, and electricity generation from, pre-commercial marine renewable technologies.

The equipment installed offers grid-connected projects near berth, robust, flexible and efficient electrical interface arrangements.

Celtic Sea Power Test Site

Connected to the grid, Celtic Sea Power is the world’s most advanced offshore renewables test and evaluation facility. The site is located off the north coast of Cornwall and has a the potential for up to 40MW of installed floating offshore wind or wave capacity.
